Dear   ,

The July 4th holiday is quickly approaching when we celebrate the signing of the Declaration of Independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain that occurred in 1776. In 1870, Congress declared Independence Day an unpaid holiday for federal employees. Then in 1938, Congress changed Independence Day to a paid federal holiday. We hope that you have a safe and happy fourth!

Sincerely,

Mary Helen Kress

President & CEO

FLORIDA RANKED NUMBER ONE FOR WORKFORCE AND TRAINING

Florida has been ranked as the No. 1 top performing workforce and training state by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Chamber Foundation in its second annual Enterprising States report released on June 21, 2011. Last year, Florida was No. 2 in the national study. The study states that education is a key element in job creation and job placement. "By 2018, 63 percent of the nation's jobs will require some type of post-high school training credential. In some states, that number is over 70 percent. This has placed education and training of workers at the center of a new paradigm for economic growth. State leaders are realizing that education and training programs must be aligned with the jobs open within the state. This alignment can only occur with explicit cooperation between education, government, and the business community."- Enterprising States.
